Fast Track is designed for schools that would like their students to produce and present a Multicultural Day Celebration. The program is used to unify the whole school through an educative project about cultural diversity. The activities associated with the program continue after the dance workshop.
Each 'Fast Track' workshop covers many criteria of dance education and allows young people to experience working with professional artists. Besides dance, its activities also contribute to learning in literacy, numeracy and life skills, and can be used for gathering evidence about students’ development in these cross-curricular priorities. The learning also includes speaking and listening, writing, representing and structuring ideas. Each workshop has also strong component on the awareness of time, space and spatial relationship, and identifying and making use of dance patterns and sequences.
The 'Fast Track' workshops strongly stimulate young people's participation in dance creation (including making choreography), making of dance costumes out of plastic bags, crepe paper, coloured paper patterns and parts of the school uniforms, experiencing group practice as well as exposure to the multicultural composition of Australian society. Moreover, the cultural aggregation of this program helps our participants to develop a better tolerance towards other cultures.
Students, under supervision of their teachers will:
• Prepare simplified versions of traditional costumes from their assigned country
• Create exhibitions that display their respective cultures
• Learn to share ideas on ethnicity and other customs
• Prepared and provided the Multicultural Day Performance by themselves
The program is a valuable teaching aid because:
• All students have an equal opportunity to participate, regardless of their dance abilities
• All research into the traditional dances has been prepared for you by Dance Nova
• The program can be easily integrated into other Key Learning Areas such as Dance,
Drama and Visual Arts, English, Music and the like
• You may re-use and recycle the dances taught
During this program, every group will learn one dance from a particular country. The selection of dances for the workshop for each group is made by the schools form our extensive 'dance library'. Currently the comapany has a selection of over 30 dances from diverse countries. Normally there is no repetition of the countries unless your school has more then 50 classes.
The 'Fast Track' program uses visual instructions, as opposed to written notes. During the ‘Fast Track’ program, Dance Nova will use its own equipment to make DVD recording of every participating class. However, Dance Nova guarantees that at the end of the workshop the majority of students will know the dance steps and the choreography.
