Dance Nova's 'Be a Sport and Dance' workshop not only gives young people an opportunity for hands-on participation in dance activities, but it also helps to break any negative feelings that youth may have towards dance. It has been noticed by Dance Nova that boys, who are typically antithetic to dance before the program, have expressed not only immense enjoyment after the workshop but have also articulated their willingness to participate in such dance activities in the future.

Such positive changes in attitude arise as a product of the program, for the workshop serves to not only challenge the youth by including many technically difficult components in each workshop, but it also provides young people with the opportunity to broaden their understanding about dance techniques as well as dance safety.

Dance Nova’s safe dance practice focuses on providing dance activities and exercises which allow students to participate without risk of injury. During the workshop the students gain some understanding of the body limitations as well as they are given details of certain movements that pose a risk of injury and should be avoided.
Some of the stimuli for movement in this program are the movements used by people in a variety of dance styles and different sports.

Undertaken dance activities develop understanding of the dance components of space, time, energy, form and action. These activities involve young people in choreographing, creating, performing and appreciating many dance forms and eventually helping teachers in a very hard task of implementing of the new Dance Curriculum.

The, 'Be a Sport and Dance' program will give students an opportunity to compose, perform and appreciate dance. It will a give them a chance to express their knowledge, thoughts and feelings about their local, regional and global communities.
The aim of the workshops is to demonstrate that dancing is for everybody, for no matter how young or old the participant, there is always a form of dance for them. Usually, at the end of the workshop, most of the students (especially boys) will comment that it is 'cool' and even 'manly' to dance.

During the 1 hour, Dance Nova will workshop at least 3 dances (including different dance styles), conduct a few games that incorporate dance and sport skills, and will provide your students with many memorable moments of dancing and having fun together.

Due to the different physical ability of students of various age groups, this program is divided into 2 workshop levels – Lower Primary (years K-3, 3 different workshops)and Upper Primary years 4-6,
3 different workshops). The length of each workshop may be between 50 minutes to 1 hour. In both instances the structure of the workshop is very similar but the dances will vary considerably.

The workshops are conducted in a friendly atmosphere where students will have a chance to improve their skills and confidence as participants. 'Be a Sport and Dance' workshops are also designed to be suitable for every body regardless of the students' dancing background.
